  The wonderful Lawrence County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting location is a reasonable drive from New Castle, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Pennsylvania is often easier than elsewhere,
    so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This section of Slippery Rock Creek in Pennsylvania is 4.7 miles long and has been rated
as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Kennedy Mill to Eckert's Bridge section is one of them. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater  
rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places.

Briefly about the general area:
Going to McConnell's Mill State Park next to Slippery Rock Creek is a tremendous thing to do, and during your trip here you'll meet some people from Portersville for sure. A tour to Moraine State Park when you're here at Slippery Rock Creek is never a bad idea, and Grant City Falls is always fun to check out. This is such a great river. A short spree to Spillway Falls is always worthwhile. From a rain point of view Slippery Rock Creek is a relatively common spot.
