  The starting location is a reasonable drive from Somerset, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. This section is long enough to enjoy a
    good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. No shortage of good hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wonderful Somerset County scenery and the sparkling
of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The Foustwell to Carpenters Park section of Stonycreek River in Pennsylvania is 4.6 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river  
system, there are others too.

Briefly about the general area:
Hiking along the Lost Turkey Trail is wonderful fun, and if you're here you will meet lots of folks from close by Hollsopple. Have a nice hiking adventure along the John P Saylor Trail. Stonycreek River gets a typical amount of annual rain. Most of the rain falls all through July while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. For the period of the summertime months, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Stonycreek River. Summer night lows fall down to the 50's. For the period of the winter the highs are generally in the 30's, and nighttime lows at Stonycreek River throughout the wintertime usually fall into the 10's.
