The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Altoona, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Pennsylvania tend     to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Loysburg to Raystown Branch Juniata River section is one of them. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.   Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. Briefly about the general area: The Cornelius Trail offers hiking at its best, and there are plenty of folks from Hopewell here at Yellow Creek. There's great hiking along the Childers Ridge Trail, and nearby Woodcock Valley is a magnificent place to go. Coming to this river is always a good idea. Yellow Creek gets a common amount of precipitation. Throughout July this area sees the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture. At Yellow Creek during the summertime highs are in the 80's.
