South Carolina whitewater, Broad River

Fairfield & Union Newberry county, South Carolina Routes 121/72/215 Bridge to South Carolina Route 34 Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     15.2 miles

I have traveled this stretch many times, and although there arent any real rapids to speak of, there are some beautiful island to explore ( Shelton and Henderson). Most all of this stretch is in the national forest. Says Bearden82

The put-in location is a short drive from Newberry, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section of Broad River is 15.2 miles long and is according to
American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The South Carolina Routes 121/72/215 Bridge to South Carolina Route 34 Bridge section is one of a few paddling sections
in this river system. The scenic beauty of Fairfield & Union/Newberry County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that
rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.

Briefly about the general area:
During your tour to Broad River you'll meet some folks from Pomaria for sure. Broad River sees pretty high levels of precipitation. Most of the rain falls during March; April meanwhile is the driest month. Summertime highs at Broad River regularly tend to be in the 90's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's.
