  The nature scenery of Richland County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The I-20 to Congaree River stretch of Broad River in South Carolina is 4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The put-in is not too far from Columbia, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road
    map further down the page. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other spots. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system,
there are a few others too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in South Carolina are easier than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. Lodging is available near the river, but if you donít  
have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

Briefly about the general area:
You'll meet a lot of people from Columbia here; Sesquicentennial State Park is both good and picturesque. Broad River is a wet place that gets lots of rainfall. Of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain, and November is the month with the least moisture. Through the summer highs here at Broad River get into the 90's. Summer overnight lows drop down to the 60's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 50's while Broad River night low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 20's.
