  This section of Chauga River in Oconee County is 5.4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III(V) section. The put-in location is a short drive from Seneca, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The beautiful scenery of South Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip.
    You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. The campgrounds here at Chauga River are pretty good. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this
state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Route 193 to Route 290/Cassidy Bridge section is just one of them. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you  
want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.

Briefly about the general area:
While you're here at Chauga River you can take a hike along the Burrells Ford Trail, and this is a popular place for folks from Long Creek. Going for a hike along the Chattooga Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. Oconee State Park is worth a visit if you're at Chauga River, and you can never get enough of the great skiing at Scaly Mountain. The warmest time of the year at Chauga River comes with high temperatures in the 80's while overnight lows are frequently in the 50's.
