South Carolina whitewater, Chauga River Oconee county, Cobbs Bridge Road to North Horseshoe Bridge Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II(III)     7.5 miles   If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. The nature scenery of South Carolina and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. The Cobbs Bridge Road to North Horseshoe Bridge Road stretch of Chauga River is 7.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II(III) section.     The put-in is not too far from Seneca, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. There's camping available near Chauga River. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large   number of good spots. Briefly about the general area: A journey to Lake Hartwell State Park when you're here at Chauga River is a splendid idea, and nearby you hit upon the Burrells Ford Trail which is a nice hiking trail. A tremendous place like Oconee State Park next to Chauga River is too great to leave out, and there is a splendid hiking trail nearby called the Chattooga Trail. This river is so perfect. You must unquestionably visit Horseshoe Bend while you're here at Chauga River, and there are plenty of people from Long Creek here. The high level of rainfall makes Chauga River a reasonably wet place.
