South Carolina whitewater, Pacolet Spartanburg county, Clifton II to Lawson's Fork section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     3.5 miles   The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in South Carolina are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. This stretch of Pacolet in Spartanburg County is 3.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The beautiful scenery of Spartanburg County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches     in this river system, there are a few others too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is a short paddling stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking,   either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Pacolet is not far at all from Cowpens; spots like Croft State Park are magnificent to stop at. All the water falling down from the sky makes Pacolet a wet location. March is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is April. High temperatures at Pacolet throughout the warmest time of the year are in the 80's; all through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 50's, and night lows at Pacolet through the wintertime generally sink into the 20's.
