South Carolina whitewater, Saluda River

Greenville Anderson Laurens county, SR 247 to US25 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     14 miles
If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The put-in is not too far from Greenwood, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The SR 247 to US25 stretch of Saluda River
in Greenville/ Anderson/ Laurens County is 14 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The campgrounds here at Saluda River are pretty good. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have
to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. The wonderful Greenville/ Anderson/ Laurens County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Saluda River beats anything. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. A bit
of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more.

Briefly about the general area:
A short trip to Narrow Shoal is always worthwhile, and the cheerful folks of Honea Path like to hang out close by. Rutledge Shoals is an inspiring place to stop at while here. All the water falling down from the sky makes Saluda River a wet location. Through the month of March you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is September. Summertime highs at Saluda River ordinarily tend to be in the 80's, and the overnight is quite colder of course, generally in the 60's.
