South Carolina whitewater, North Saluda River

Greenville county, Route 89 to Saluda River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     3 miles
This section of North Saluda River in South Carolina is 3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. The scenic beauty of South Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. The put-in is not too far from Greenville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for
that around here. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in South Carolina are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance
you're all set. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Route 89 to Saluda River stretch is just one of them.

Briefly about the general area:
Don't leave North Saluda River without stopping by Jones Gap State Park; do put some time aside to spend at McElhenny Shoal since you're here at North Saluda River. You'll meet a lot of folks from Slater here, and a tour here wouldn’t be complete without a journey to nearby Paris Mountain State Park. This is a great river. The high level of rain makes North Saluda River a reasonably wet place. The month of March is the wettest with most of the rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
