South Carolina whitewater, Tyger River

Spartanburg Union county, Route 35 Bridge to South Carolina Route 34 on Broad section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     11.6 miles
The natural beauty of Spartanburg/ Union County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average South Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. The campgrounds here at Tyger River are pretty good. This section of Tyger River in Spartanburg/ Union County is 11.6 miles long and
has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Newberry, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. You might
be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Not too many hotels
nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
