South Carolina whitewater, South Tyger River

Spartanburg county, Route 86 to Route 113 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     10 miles

Floated this section and some more on 5-28-07, put in on 86 where river crosses road. Bad trip...Alot of trees. Still fun took @ 7hrs. The creek where you put in is not marked. you will see the river at the creek. Says clifford deyoung

If you're coming from Spartanburg it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside South Carolina you
might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go
ahead and pack your camp stove. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. The natural beauty of South Carolina and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter,
this area has a large number of paddling places. This stretch of South Tyger River in Spartanburg County is 10 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well.
