  The Highway 14A to Whitewood section of Whitewood Creek in South Dakota is 8 miles long and it is classified as a class III+(V+) section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Spearfish. The Black Hills scenery is wonderful. The nature scenery of South Dakota and the water flowing gracefully down Whitewood Creek will make you feel great. The average South Dakota whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends
    to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking
around here you won't find a large number of other rivers. Whitewood Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Highway 14A to Whitewood section is the only one. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have  
reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
