Tennessee whitewater, Buffalo River

Lewis and Wayne county, Murphy Bridge to Topsy Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I(II)     25 miles
The Murphy Bridge to Topsy Bridge section of Buffalo River is 25 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I(II) section of whitewater. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other places for that. If you're coming from Lawrenceburg
it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all
set. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Murphy Bridge
to Topsy Bridge section is one of them. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff.

Briefly about the general area:
It's always glorious to explore Cow Hollow Spring, and you'll meet a lot of folks from Hohenwald here. A cool spot to visit in the neighborhood of Buffalo River is Voorhies Bend; Perry Hollow is a magnificent place to check out. This is such a fun river. Davis Bend is something you shouldn't miss if you're here at Buffalo River. Buffalo River is a wet place that gets much precipitation. Most of the rain falls during December; October is the month with the least moisture.
