Tennessee whitewater, Citico Creek Monroe county, Doublecamp to Little Tennessee River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     17 miles   The beautiful scenery of Monroe County and the water flowing gracefully down Citico Creek beats anything. This stretch of Citico Creek is 17 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. There are campgrounds quite near the river where     you can camp. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. If you're coming from Knoxville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location. The beautiful Great Smoky Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This river system has a few good paddling   stretches and the Doublecamp to Little Tennessee River section is one of them. Briefly about the general area: Citico Creek is not far at all from Vonore; Fort Loudoun State Park is both good and pretty. That right there is a load of entertaining stuff already but it goes on, the Great Smoky Mountains has it all. Don't leave Citico Creek without first going for a hike along the Rocky Flats Trail. There's nice hiking along the Mill Branch Trail. High temperatures at Citico Creek through the summertime months are in the 80's.
