Tennessee whitewater, Coal Bank

Sequatchie county, ridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The ridge section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive
a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. When
you're paddling down a Cumberland Plateau Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. If you're coming from Chattanooga it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This stretch is very short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to
put-in a few times.

Briefly about the general area:
Near Coal Bank you stumble on the Hardy Trail which is a magnificent hiking trail, and Coal Bank is not far at all from Signal Mountain. Man, is there a lot of entertaining stuff to do in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. The Skyuka Trail is a splendid hiking trail next to Coal Bank, and Booker T. Washington State Park is a nice location to visit. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. If you're here at Coal Bank, do take a visit to Wolfpen Point. Coal Bank is a quite wet place typically with a good deal of precipitation.
