Tennessee whitewater, Emory River

Morgan county, Emory River Canyon - Highway 62 to Nemo section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     7 miles
The scenic beauty of Morgan County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. If you're coming from Harriman it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map
further down the page so you won’t get lost. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby
hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Emory River Canyon - Highway 62 to Nemo section is just one of them. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. This section of Emory River is
7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip.

Briefly about the general area:
You'll meet a lot of people from Wartburg here, and visiting Frozen Head State Park is a splendid thing to do. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors enjoyable stuff the Cumberland Plateau Mountains has to offer. If time allows, Obed Wild & Scenic River is a national park worth stopping at. The high level of rain makes Emory River a pretty wet place. Of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain while October is usually the driest month.
