Tennessee whitewater, Hurricane Creek

Fentress county, Camp Ground Road to East Fork Obey section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V     4 miles
This stretch of Hurricane Creek in Tennessee is 4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. The nature scenery of Tennessee and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The nearby hotels are a bit away from
the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some
kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Tennessee you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Crossville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wild scenery of the Cumberland
Plateau Mountains is great. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.

Briefly about the general area:
Balden Gulf is a wonderful spot to take a look at next to Hurricane Creek, and the cheerful folks of Grimsley like to hang out nearby. Be careful coming to the Cumberland Plateau Mountains, you might not ever wanna return home again. For the duration of the days of summer at Hurricane Creek highs are mostly in the 80's, and the overnight is a tad colder of course, mostly in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Hurricane Creek are in the 20's.
