This stretch of Nolichucky River in Tennessee is 8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. The campgrounds here at Nolichucky River are pretty good. No shortage of good hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The wonderful Unicoi County scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a   while are sure to keep you coming back for more. The beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains is a great plus for this river. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The put-in location is a short drive from Johnson City, as you can see on the road map further down. Briefly about the general area: A splendid place near Nolichucky River is Curley Maple Gap, and a trip to Cherokee National Forest is a perfect idea. This spot, the Great Smoky Mountains, has so much outdoors exciting things. Take a hike on the Nolichucky River Trail, and what would winter be without some skiing at Wolf Ridge.
