If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The nature scenery of Monroe County and the water flowing gracefully down North River make the trip here worthwhile. A good workout and just hanging out with mother     nature will have you coming back for more. The Great Smoky Mountains scenery is wonderful. The North River Campground to Tellico River section of North River in Monroe County is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This is a somewhat short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the North River Campground to Tellico River section is one of them. Not too many hotels nearby,   you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike on the McNabb Creek Trail is always a nice adventure, and needless to say, A visit to Queen Cove is always fun. Yep, outdoors amusing things truly is plentiful here in the Great Smoky Mountains. There are wonderful places to explore along the Hemlock Trail, and North River is a site with many visitors from Tellico Plains. This river is so perfect. North River is a wet site that gets a large amount of rainfall. The month with most of the rain is March; October is when it's the driest.
