The natural beauty of Tennessee and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The starting location is a short drive from Athens, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. A bit of exercise and     just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Ranger Station to Tellico Plains stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. The Great Smoky Mountains scenery is wonderful. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Whether you're whitewater   rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. Briefly about the general area: Lots of folks from Tellico Plains come to Tellico River, and a perfect site to explore is Aiken Hollow. So many entertaining things in the Great Smoky Mountains, just amazing. The Basin Gap Trail offers hiking at its best, and a journey here wouldn’t be complete without a spree to nearby Fort Loudoun State Park. This river is a great place to visit. There's great hiking along the Warriors Passage Trail. At Tellico River throughout the summertime months highs are in the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's.
