The wonderful Polk County scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. The put-in is not too far from Athens, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you     glad you came. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks. This section of Wolf Creek in Polk County is 2.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV+ section. The wild scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains is great. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area:   Wolf Creek is not far at all from Turtletown, and Stone Pile Gap is a good place to stop at. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Great Smoky Mountains. On a delightful day at Wolf Creek you can take a hike along the Smith Mountain Trail. Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park is a glorious spot to check out, and the Unicoi Mountain Trail is a great hiking trail nearby. Wolf Creek ordinarily gets much precipitation. The month with most of the rain is March, and October is when it's the driest. For the duration of the long summer days at Wolf Creek temperatures are mostly in the 80's.
