The wonderful Texas scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from San Antonio it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Texas are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. |
This stretch is very short so no need to bring snacks. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
| Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the New Braunfels section is one of them. here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: Comal River is right by the Old Hancock Trail, and during your spree here you'll meet some folks from New Braunfels
for sure. A visit to Panther Canyon is always fun, and the Guadalupe Park Trail offers hiking at its best. This is such a wonderful river. Comal Springs is always fun to check out. The warmest time of the year brings highs
in the 90's to Comal River. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 70's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's; throughout the dark hours in the winter at Comal River temperatures descend to the 30's.
