The Hye to Johnson City stretch of Pedernales River in Blanco County is 16 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-IV section of whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a |
large number of good places. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Hye to Johnson City section is
| just one of many. The scenic beauty of Blanco County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near.
