Don't miss the new whitewater park here on the San Marcos River, because it is always flowing at a clear 72 degrees from the giant San Marcos Springs. if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the San Marcos to Martindale section is one of them. No need to look hard for hotels,
but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Good hiking is available along the Lockhart State Park Trail, and Lockhart State Park is a wonderful spot.
At San Marcos River you always meet someone from Maxwell, and don't leave San Marcos River without first going for a hike along the Prospect Park Trail.
