Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Utah is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. The beautiful scenery of Summit County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Upton to Coalville section is one of them. run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff too. There's camping available near Chalk Creek. The put-in is not too far from Ogden-Clearfield, as you can see on the road
| map further down. This section of Chalk Creek in Summit County is 15 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The wild scenery of the Wasatch Range is great. lots of people. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
Briefly about the general area: Fewkes Canyon is
a good site to pop by close by; at Chalk Creek you always meet someone from Coalville. So many exciting things to do in the Wasatch Range, not sufficient time. Lost Creek State Park is worth stopping at if you're at Chalk
Creek, and if the weather is great, you can go for a hike along the Union Pacific Rail Trail. This is a really good river. Everybody loves Rockport State Park.
