Utah whitewater, Green River

Uintah county, Canyon of Lodore Colorado to US 40 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-IV     44 miles
The Canyon of Lodore Colorado to US 40 stretch of Green River is 44 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Utah and the cool fresh water have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Utah is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there
are others too. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because
these hotels fill up quick. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. The put-in is not too far from Vernal, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. When you're paddling down a Uinta Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both,
doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
A wooded neighborhood near Green River is Tree Island; the Daniels Trail is a glorious hiking trail close by. If you want a glorious time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Uinta Mountains. A splendid spot right next door to Green River is Island Park Fault; there is a delightful hiking trail close by called the Jones Hole Trail. This river has it all. It is very dried out here at Green River commonly. Of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and January is the month with the least moisture.
