CLASS I-III 70 miles

The starting location is a reasonable drive from Cedar City, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch of Sevier River in Sevier County is 70 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. Sevier River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the |
Upstream of Panguitch to Salina stretch is the only one. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
| For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. The beautiful scenery of Utah and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Utah are often more forgiving than in other states, so don't forget that the rivers in this state | |
|
are less demanding.
Briefly about the general area: A short spree to Don Spring is always worthwhile; you'll probably meet some folks from Marysvale here. The Smith Canyon Trail is a great hiking trail close to
Sevier River, and a trip to Otter Creek State Park when you're here is never a bad idea. This river is so good. There is a tremendous hiking trail in close proximity to Sevier River called the Copper Belt Trail, and a tour
to Piute State Park is a delightful idea. Around Sevier River you don’t get a lot of precipitation. September is the month that gets the most rain, and January is the month with the least moisture.
