Vermont whitewater, Deerfield River - West Branch Bennington county, Heartwellville to Readsboro Village section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS V     3.5 miles   WOW. don't come here unless you been paddlin for some time. Although a bit easier than CL5 I have done in other states, this still comes at you fast. Not easy to find a place to stay if looking for a room as it was stated here. Wasn't hard to find a place and park for the night though and with a mini van with DVDs, we snuggled up nice, with noone to bother us. Oh yeah, nice and cool at night (although summer) glad we had a lot of blankets     and ways to stay warm. The Heartwellville to Readsboro Village section of Deerfield River - West Branch is 3.5 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The wonderful Vermont scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons   enough to come here and paddle. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Heartwellville to Readsboro Village stretch is just one of them. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.
