Vermont whitewater, Lamoille River

Lamoille county, Slide Falls to Jeffersonville section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     11.5 miles

The put in needs to be below sloping falls which is the first pull off on River Road East where the road turns to dirt. There is a dirt dirveway that goes to the waters edge. This put in would make the paddle class I,II.

*If you put in where the map show you are paddling through 2 class 5 rapids in the first 1/4 mile! The first is dogs head a class 5 rapid. http://www. northeastwaterfalls. nom/ waterfall. php?num=103&p=0

The second and
more dangerous is sloping falls a class 5 rapid with a sieve river center to left (giant hole in rock that all the water goes underground through a rock tunnel and surfaces downstream of the sieve. http://www. northeastwaterfalls.
com/ waterfall. php?num=359&p=0

Note* there have been many deaths in Sloping falls as it looks easy to paddle. However, if you get stuck in the sieve(which is more likely than avoiding it) you will be sucked underground. Most body recovers take 2-3 days with the Swift Water Rescue team scuba diving.

The start point is after sloping falls where River Road turns to dirt. Says Max Post

The Slide Falls to Jeffersonville stretch

of Lamoille River is 11.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Lamoille County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Slide Falls to Jeffersonville section is one of them. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove.
