The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Vermont are often easier than in other states, so keep in     mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. The West Fairlee to Thetford Covered Bridge section of Ompompanoosuc River in Vermont is 8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend   some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The wild scenery of the Green Mountains is great. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The beautiful scenery of Orange County and the cool fresh water beats anything. Briefly about the general area: Take some time to go to West Fairlee Municipal Forest while you're here; there are plenty of folks from Post Mills here. So many amusing things in the Green Mountains, just tremendous. Go for a hike on the Wrights Mountain Trail, and good hiking is available along the Dartmouth Outing Club Trail.
