  The starting location is a reasonable drive from Lebanon, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Vermont tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. The nature scenery of Caledonia/Orange County and the water flowing gracefully down Wells River are in themselves reasons enough to come here
    to paddle. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Groton to Wells River Village stretch is one of them. The Groton to Wells
River Village section of Wells River is 9.5 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there  
are lots of good spots for that around here.

Briefly about the general area:
A spree to Wells River wouldn’t be complete without a spree to nearby Ricker Pond State Park. Going for a hike along the Wrights Mountain Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. If you want to hit the beach, Boulder Beach is close by; since you're here you will meet lots of folks from close by South Ryegate. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. A glorious site like Boulder Beach State Park close to Wells River is too delightful to leave out, and if the weather is tremendous, you can go for a hike along the Peacham Bog Trail.
