Vermont whitewater, West River Windham county, Salmon Hole to Route 100 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II     3.2 miles   The Salmon Hole to Route 100 stretch of West River in Windham County is 3.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Vermont you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There are plenty     of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The nature scenery of Vermont and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Whitewater paddling here in the Green Mountains is a great experience. If you're coming from Bennington it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to   keep you coming back for more. No need to look hard for hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Briefly about the general area: Molly Stark State Park is a pleasant site; hey, Gotta ski right? Magic Mountain is a great place to do that. Having a great time in the Green Mountains is painless. Places like Jamaica State Park are magnificent to check out, and you're sure to run into some smiling folks from Jamaica here. This river is always fun. Hiking is a popular thing to do around West River; Hamilton Falls Trail is a great local trail. There's great hiking along the Overlook Trail.
