Vermont whitewater, White River

Windsor county, Rochester to Bethel section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     20 miles
The starting location is a reasonable drive from Barre, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Windsor County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The beautiful Green Mountains scenery is an added
bonus. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Rochester to Bethel section is just one of them. This
stretch of White River in Vermont is 20 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in
advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.

Briefly about the general area:
Lots of people from Bethel come to White River; you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Twin Farms while you're here. But wait, there's more enjoyable stuff to do in the Green Mountains. A great place like Allis State Park in close proximity to White River is too good to leave out, and a wooded vicinity nearby is Bethel Town Forest. This is such a fun river. Don't leave White River without visiting Silver Lake State Park, and don't leave White River without first checking out Heap Pinnacle.
