Vermont whitewater, Williams River

Windham county, Northchester to Brockway Mills section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     7.5 miles

The dam and huge waterfall and gorge at Brockways Mills is not marked right now. There used to be buoy lines and a danger sign but they are gone! Be so careful to get out before the dam!!! Says Lisa Crocer

The nature scenery of Windham County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're visiting
here do keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and
some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch of Williams River is 7.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. There are a few other sections
in this river system that can be paddled as well. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come.

Briefly about the general area:

There is a wonderful hiking trail in the vicinity of Williams River called the Slot Trail, and a tour to Wilgus State Park when you're here is never a bad idea. This river is so wonderful. A wonderful forest near Williams River is Rockingham Town Forest, and while you're here you will meet lots of people from close by Chester.
