The natural beauty of Stafford County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. This section of Aquia Creek is 10.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. Lodging is     available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, as you can see on the road map further down. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. Briefly   about the general area: A tour to Aquia Creek wouldn’t be complete without a spree to nearby Purse State Park. Aquia Creek is right by the Chopawamsic Trail, and a visit to Prince William Forest Park is worthwhile. Lots of fun awaits you along this river. Take a hike on the South Valley Trail; you'll most likely meet some people from Stafford here. Enjoy a lazy day on the beach at Clifton Beach, and a visit to Leesylvania State Park is a great idea. Aquia Creek frequently gets much precipitation. Through August this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is January.
