Just get there today and was really disappointed. Not enough water to ride a kayak. I wonder when it is possible. The river is narrow and shallow. You must carry your kayak if you want to reach the end! Says Sebastien

This stretch of Back Creek - South River Tributary in Virginia is 9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the beautiful way the water current
| moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. not forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. There are some good hotels near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system,
the Sherando Lake to South River stretch is one of them. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience.
