The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Lynchburg, please print out a copy of the road map further     down the page so you won’t get lost. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch of Buffalo Creek in Rockbridge County is 12.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The Effinger to Buffalo Forge stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can   camp. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. Briefly about the general area: A fine location to pop by in the neighborhood of Buffalo Creek is Spring Valley, and the Balcony Falls Trail offers hiking at its best. So many exciting things to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains, not enough time. Buffalo Creek is a place with many visitors from Natural Bridge, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Gunter Ridge Trail. This is a really good river. High temperatures at Buffalo Creek through the summer are in the 80's.
