The beautiful scenery of Augusta/Rockbridge County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy.     The Rt 250 to Route 692 section of Calfpasture River is 10 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at Calfpasture River are pretty good. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area   has a large number of paddling spots. If the weather is great here at Calfpasture River, you can go for a hike along the West Augusta Trail. On a magnificent day at Calfpasture River you can take a hike along the Elliott Knob Trail.
