The starting location is a short drive from Winchester, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch of Cedar Creek is 20 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. The campgrounds here at Cedar Creek are pretty good. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. The natural beauty of Shenandoah/ Frederick County and the playfulness of the water
will make you feel great. Lodging is available near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Route 55 to Route 11 section is one of them. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too.
