The Clear Creek Gorge section of Clear Creek in Wise County is 0.75 miles long and has been rated as a class IV+ section by American Whitewater. The Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is wonderful. The scenic beauty of Wise County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. There are no other sections to paddle along Clear Creek than the Clear Creek Gorge     section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. There's camping available near Clear Creek. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This stretch is very short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. No need to look hard for hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Briefly   about the general area: People from Norton love to come to Clear Creek; going for a hike on the Pine Mountain Trail is always a fine adventure. These mountains rock, just look at all the fun stuff to do in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. If you're here, you might as well stop by Benges Gap. Summer at Clear Creek comes with high temperatures in the 80's; the overnight is a bit colder of course, generally in the 60's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's, and night lows during the wintertime for Clear Creek tend to be in the 20's.
