Virginia whitewater, Clinch River Scott Russell county, St. Paul to Dungannon section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I     18 miles   The put-in location is a short drive from Kingsport-Bristol, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Clinch River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so don't forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. If you're a camper     you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This section of Clinch River in Virginia is 18 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I section. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the St. Paul to Dungannon section is one of them. No matter if you're whitewater   rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. Briefly about the general area: During your trip to Clinch River you'll meet some people from Saint Paul for sure. While staying at Clinch River you could always discover Buffalo Hollow; you can go for a hike on the The Lonesome Pine Trail. This is such a great river. Summertime highs at Clinch River mostly tend to be in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 20's for Clinch River. A large amount of precipitation falls at Clinch River.
