The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Mount Airy, as you can see on the road map further down. The Pinnacles Power Plant to Claudville stretch of Dan River in Patrick County is 11.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. This stretch has enough mileage     for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Pinnacles Power Plant to Claudville stretch is just one of many. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. The average Virginia whitewater   rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. Briefly about the general area: A tour to Pilot Mountain State Park revitalizes the soul, and you'll perhaps meet some people from Claudville here. You absolutely have to fancy the Blue Ridge Mountains. Kibler Valley is in the vicinity of Dan River and is positively a great location to stop by, and if the weather is glorious, you can go for a hike along the Run Trail. This is such a wonderful river. At Dan River during the months of summer highs are in the 80's.
