Virginia whitewater, Difficult Run

  The put-in is not too far from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. The scenic beauty of Fairfax County and the playfulness of the water are in
    themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Old Georgetown Pike to Potomac River stretch of Difficult Run is 0.9 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV(V+)
section by American Whitewater. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Old Georgetown Pike to Potomac River stretch is one of them. This is a very short section so better bring some good walking shoes. No matter  
if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that.

Briefly about the general area:
Seneca Creek State Park is a good place to go if you're at Difficult Run, and the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Great Falls. Near Difficult Run you hit upon the Potomac Heritage Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail, and as expected, all our national parks are nice locations to stop at and Wolf Trap Farm Park is no exception. Coming to this river is always a good idea. The Gold Mine Trail is a delightful hiking trail close to Difficult Run, and close by you hit upon Mather Gorge which is a pleasant site to stop at.
