Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. The nature scenery of Rockingham County and the water flowing gracefully down Dry River beats anything.     If you're coming from Harrisonburg it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The campgrounds here at Dry River are pretty good. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. The Rt 33 to Route 613 section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Briefly about   the general area: There are great places to discover along the Dictum Ridge Trail, and Dry River is not far at all from Hinton. Hughes Hollow is a delightful location to have a look at nearby; going for a hike on the Second Mountain Trail is always a tremendous adventure. This river is so good. Blue Hole is close at hand and always great to go to. From a precipitation point of view Dry River is a relatively normal place. The wettest month of the year is regularly July, that's the one that rains the most, and January is the month with the least moisture. For the duration of the long summer days here at Dry River, high temperatures generally reach the 80's with overnight lows in the 50's.
