The starting location is a reasonable drive from Kingsport-Bristol, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. The average Virginia     whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Briefly   about the general area: Flatwoods is a perfect local forest; you could always explore Pound Gap. Hanging Rock is an interesting place to check out while at Guest River, and at Guest River you always meet someone from Coeburn. A river like this is too good to miss. From a rainfall point of view Guest River is a relatively common spot. Most of the rain falls throughout March; the driest month is October. Through the summertime here at Guest River, high temperatures mostly reach the 80's, and the nighttime is a bit chillier of course, commonly in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and overnight lows through the wintertime for Guest River tend to be in the 20's.
