Virginia whitewater, Hardware River Fluvanna county, Temperance Wayside to James River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     12 miles   This stretch of Hardware River in Fluvanna County is 12 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The put-in location is a short drive from Charlottesville, as you can see on the road map further down. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good     places. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camp stove. The Temperance Wayside to James River section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Through the summertime at Hardware River temperatures are mostly in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Hardware River descend into the 20's. A lot of rain falls at Hardware River.
