Virginia whitewater, Hughes River and Hazel River Rappahannock Culpepper county, SR 603 to Route 522 Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II     9.5 miles   If you are paddling the hazel this is a heads up when taking out at the low water bridge on monument mills road. The property owners there are real not so friendly. They think they own the river itself. Just a heads up. Says Low water bridge in rixeyville Some B and B's are near the put-in and take-out for the Hughes. La Bella Terra at 605 and 606 in Madison County is a weekend B and B in season (May-September)and near the take out.     It also offers farmhouse dining on Sat. 540 547 2317. Says Kit Johnston The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. This section of Hughes River and Hazel River in Rappahannock/Culpepper County is 9.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise   and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the playfulness of the water beats anything. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
