  The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. The Damascus to South Fork of Holston River stretch of Laurel Creek is 2.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing
    to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Damascus to South Fork of Holston River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Whether you're
whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. The starting point is not too far from Boone, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This is a somewhat short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The natural beauty of Washington County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. A good workout and spending some  
quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here.

Briefly about the general area:
Hiking is a popular thing to do around Laurel Creek; Maple Spring Fire Trail is a good local trail. Laurel Creek is next to Fisher Hollow which is definitely worth checking out. Good hiking is available along the Clark Mountain Trail, and Laurel Creek is a location with many visitors from Damascus. This river has so much to offer. At Laurel Creek through the months of summer highs are in the 80's while nighttime lows are frequently in the 60's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Laurel Creek are in the 20's.
