Virginia whitewater, Little River - Clinch R. Tributary Tazewell county, Wardell to Clinch River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     17.5 miles   DO NOT DO LITTLE RIVER!!! We tried to float Little R. Right after many days of serious rain and it was still to shallow! We made it maybe 4 miles in 6 hours and our canoe got a hole in it. This hole was due to all of the rocks and ledges that we're covered by 6 inches of water or less! We spent most of the 6 hours walking because the river was unnavigable!! Says Disappointed This stretch of Little River - Clinch R. Tributary is 17.5     miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Bristol, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Wardell to Clinch River section is one of them. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors   will make you glad you came. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Briefly about the general area: While you're here at Little River - Clinch R.
